Red
Wines
"Monte Soledad" 2003 (Tempranillo, Garnacha,
Barbera, and Cabernet Sauvignon)- Tempranillo
and garnacha are the standard bearers for Spain's Rioja wines.
These two provide a stable base, the barbera provides fruitiness,
and the Cabernet rounds out the body. This wine has
a subtle anaïs nose. The palate consists of front-end
black cherries and dried fruit, with slight notes of chocolate
and warm spice (cloves) in the finish. It is drinkable now
and would go well with lamb chops, duck, tomato pasta sauces,
and especially Mexican mole sauce dishes. American
oaked for 12-24 months (by varietal). Grapes: Guadalupe Valley.
Produced: San Diego County.
"Balboa"
2002 Tempranillo-
Medium bodied red blend, with an earthy, savory flavor of
green and black olives. Tempranillo is a Spanish grape of
the famed Rioja region. This
wine is a good alternative for anyone looking for less berry
and fruit in a wine. American oaked for 12 months.
Grapes grown in Guadalupe Valley, Baja
California, wine made in Escondido.
"Cabrillo"
2002 Cabernet Sauvignon- Full bodied red with masculine
character. Leather, tobacco, and smoky notes. Drinkable now,
but ample tannins also make this a good cellar candidate.
Grapes grown in Guadalupe Valley, Baja California, wine made
in Escondido.
"Garnacha"
2002 Grenache Reserve- This is one of our specialty niche
wines that is hard to find anywhere else. Grenache is typically
a light, fruity wine used for blending. It can be similar
to Pinot Noir in flavor and texture, though the color is a
lighter red. However, the grenache out of our source vineyard
in 2002 showed a very distinct warm spice that we thought
should come forward on its own. We kept it in oak an extra
year to beef up the tannins. A lot of warm spice (e.g. cloves/cinnamon)
come through on this unique vintage. Grapes grown in Guadalupe
Valley, Baja California, wine made in Escondido.
"Ranchero"
2001 Cabernet and Nebbiolo Blend- Intense red blend, dry
& very deep flavor. American oaked for 12 months. Cabernet
Sauvignon is the backbone of wines from the left bank of Bordeaux,
France. Nebbiolo is the basis for gorgeous wines from Northern
Italy's Piedmont area, most notably from the appellation Barolo
(inside of the Piedmont area). You may have heard of the "Super
Tuscans," which are wines made of Tuscany's traditional
grape Sangiovese, blended with Cabernet Sauvignon for increased
structure and elegance. There are now a few "Super Piedmonts,"
made of Nebbiolo and Cabernet, and Ranchero could be considered
a "New World Super Piedmont." Grapes grown in Guadalupe
Valley, Baja California, wine made in Escondido.
Escondido
(Merlot)- Dry & medium bodied red - A French Bordeaux
varietal. Merlot wines offer flavors similar to Cabernet but
with a greater sense of exuberant fruitiness. Lower acidity,
softer tannins and higher alcohol yield a succulent texture,
an apparent sweetness, early accessibility and quicker maturation,
compared to Cabernet's austerity and longevity. Grapes grown
in Guadalupe Valley, Baja California, wine made in Escondido.

Coronado
Port (Zinfandel)- Sweet, thick and rich - very good dessert
wine, or to sip while enjoying a fine cigar! American oaked
for 15 months. Port is made by adding wine distillate/brandy
to partially fermented wine. The alcohol halts yeast fermentation,
leaving a high sugar content in the wine, yet allowing infusion
of fruits and tannins from the grapes. Oak aging rounds and
softens this luxurious mix. Zinfandel grown in Rancho Cucamonga,
California, wine made in Escondido. If you haven't tried port,
here is a great website that will make you want to!-> About
